The fair tax will replace the current income tax with a national sales tax. No family or business will file an income tax return or have payroll taxes deducted (Social Security and Medicare, a 7.65% tax taken from your paycheck and a matching 7.65% from your employer, plus what you pay from your W2 etc. will be gone along with the IRS). Instead there will be an embedded sales tax of 23% and that figure will be printed on the receipt of everything you buy. Our current tax code is about 65,000 pages. The fair tax is 133 pages. Families
and businesses spend nearly $400 billion dollars a year to comply with our current, very complex tax code. The filing cost for the much simpler fair tax will be much less. I also personally like having a consumption tax because that is what the founders of this country proposed in the Federalist Papers (#12).
